Business Owner for Thatcham: Caroline Bairstow
Sport has always played a big part of my life. From cross country running as a young child to Hockey as an older teenager and adult. However two sports have stayed a constant, horse riding and my love of Swimming! After completing my Biology degree at Kent University I came back home to Newbury and started my career in medical research, working my way up to a senior project manager. Outside of work I played and coached hockey to children under 14 years, which I gained much enjoyment from. I did this until I injured my knee resulting in major surgery.
After the birth of my son William, I met Trish Hare (Swimkidz founder) when we started baby swimming. William loved the water and teaching him this life saving skill was one of the most important things to spend my maternity pay on. When Trish started Swimkidz, her visions for continuing swimming for toddlers and then onto children sounded fantastic. A complete swimming program that was progressive, structured and fun was very important to me. There was no question, we wanted to be part of the Swimkidz family.
A while after returning to work I found the job I once loved had lost its appeal. With the pending arrival of my second child Abigail, my husband James and I decided the time was right to change career. Trish gave me the opportunity to try out as a pool assistant and my love of teaching children came flooding back. I became excited about going to work each morning, the career change was certainly right!
Over the following three years I loved watching the babies, toddlers and children grow into fantastic swimmers while having a lot of fun. It gave me such pride to know I have been a part of that. However, I felt I had a lot more to give and I wanted to help grow the legacy that is Swimkidz. In May 2013, Swimkidz (Berks/Hants/Wilts) was born. It was now my turn as the franchise owner to build the family. The future will see Swimkidz move into Swindon, Andover, Winchester and Sailsbury. Keep a look out for us, we will be coming your way.
