When should I start swimming with my baby?
The answer is whenever you feel ready. The youngest baby we have ever taught was just a couple of weeks old! We recommend starting your baby as early as possible, because the younger your baby is, the happier they are likely to be. Don’t forget, they have only just left the comfort of your womb, so being in warm water will still feel entirely natural to them. Please don’t worry if you cannot swim yourself or are not water confident, we will be there with you every step of the way to ensure your experience with us is memorable.
The Benefits for my Baby
There are so many health benefits to early swimming including motor and neurological development. Research has suggested that babies who participate in swimming are often more alert for their age and have better eating and sleeping patterns. So not only are you having an amazing time in the pool you are aiding your child’s future development.

Baby Led Swimming Classes
Swimkidz are proud to say that we have guided thousands of babies and children through their Swimkidz swimming journey, learning to swim through our unique, award winning swimming programme. Swimkidz classes are baby led and your child is at the heart of everything we do at Swimkidz. Starting with the carefully selected venues, we use warm water pools which are suitable for babies, and even the youngest of babies can join us from birth in our hydro pools!
Our passionate and knowledgeable instructors are trained to understand babies nonverbal cues and body language to ensure that they are having the most positive experience in the water with you.

Our Classes
We follow our carefully constructed, progressive lesson plans that ensure that the activities taught each week are suitable to the developmental age and ability of the child. Lessons are fun and engaging whilst supporting the child’s wellbeing and enhancing that special bond between you. Our programme is full of familiar songs, (along with a couple of catchy Swimkidz ones!), games and play to teach vital lifesaving skills and early essential swimming skills each week. These songs and games also help your baby with early language development and literacy skills.
Structured Progress
Our lessons have been developed to enhance key development stages of your baby. Our fun Swimming journey book also helps to track progression.

1. Social Development
Swimkidz classes are a weekly highlight, promoting social skills like sharing, turn-taking, and following instructions. Babies learn positive interactions with peers, instructors, and parents, fostering cooperation and emotional growth. Regular classes create a familiar, happy environment, helping children develop confidence and prepare for school.
2. Psychological, Physical, and Physiological Benefits
Baby swimming enhances brain development, language skills, and self-esteem while fostering a love for physical activity. It strengthens muscles, improves cardiovascular health, and increases lung capacity. Repetitive movements aid memory, mood, and focus, reducing anxiety. Swimming also builds motor skills and supports a strong mind-body connection. The routine provides a structured, comforting environment where children thrive.
